[DOMINIQUE SCOTT SHOOTS OVER OPPONENT] |
[DOMINIQUE OUTSIDE OF HER BASKETBALL UNIFORM] |
Meet a great friend of mine whom I met in High school, Dominique Scott or "Domo" to many of her peers. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California Dominique is one of many student athletes and one of a few I chose to keep in touch with after we both graduated in 2009. I watched an annoying and very much obnoxious girl grow and mature to a beautiful young woman. Scott now attends the University of Southern California (USC) and is well on her way to achieving her goals but the road was not an easy one. Scott tells me that she was always that girl in class that was able to get the work done and earn the good grades but never took school very seriously. Her grades eventually fell and she was forced to attend a junior college. She attended Pasadena City College where after her final season on the women's basketball team, was offered a scholarship to the University of Albany in New York. Being shy of a class/units caused Scott to lose this scholarship opportunity only a few weeks before she was scheduled to leave for New York. Needless to say Dominique was hurt and it was a trying time in her life but she did not give up. Instead, Dominique used her anger, pain, and frustration to fuel her jets. She took the classes required and used her time off to further perfect her craft. Dominique was eventually offered a full scholarship to the University of Southern California(USC). Dominique tells me that where she comes from never effected how she would turn out nor who she'd become. She says she was always determined to create a better life for herself and without a doubt Scott is making steps in the right direction. Dominique's ultimate goal is to graduate from USC and pursue a basketball career playing over seas. While this is her ultimate goal, Dominique feels that obtaining her college degree is more important and looks forward to having her degree to fall back on. We asked Dominique if she was of any influence to her peers, how she would like to impact them. She stated that she'd just like to show her peers that hard work and determination do pay off in due time. Dominique was someone I chose to report on because she's definitely a "roaring twenty". I've seen her defeat and over come obstacles that seemed impossible and I can tell you that anyone in her way better watch out because she's coming and she's roaring! Dominique is on her way to becoming a success story within her own. I've never seen someone genuinely work to better themselves as she has and words could not tell you how proud I am to call this amazingly smart, courageous, beautiful young woman my friend. We wish Dominique Scott all the best of luck as she pursues a career and her education.
